This page is dedicated to the memory of
Jackson "Thunderfoot" Spires

Founding Drummer of Blackfoot
and a member of the Southern Rock All Stars at the time of his death

I was hooked on Blackfoot at a a young age and had the pleasure of seeing Blackfoot live several times, they were a big influence in my early years of playing guitar

Later in life I had the pleasure of getting to know Jackson on a personal level, he moved to Knightdale NC and frequented the Wal-MArt where I worked in the photo lab.  I got to see him play with SRA in Raleigh and we struck up a great friendship. I commented about the shirt he wore often and he told me about the Trail of Tears.

I wrote a song for my band called "Trail of Tears" based on these conversations and research I did after talking with Jackson
I showed him the lyrics and he encouraged me to record the song saying it captured the spirit of the Trail of Tears and to never give up on music. We recorded the song but Jackson had moved to Florida to be closer to the Southern Rock All Stars band and sadly he passed away before he got to hear the finised CD Version. He is remembered in our hearts every time we play this song.
